Coronavirus Bereavement Study – Announcement for Participants
The Coronavirus Bereavement Study aims to better understand factors that may be related to bereavement experiences by learning from those who have experienced a loss during the pandemic. Participants will be asked to complete an online questionnaire that surveys their loss and bereavement experiences, including how the pandemic interfered with their grieving process, as well as their general background information (gender, age, health status, and so forth), mood, personality, coping, social engagement, stressors, and functioning. There are also open-ended responses to questions about their experiences and opportunities for a follow-up phone interview if chosen. Participation in the study is totally voluntary and open to individuals who are English-speaking, age 55+, and who have experienced the death of a significant other during the pandemic and have access to a computer or smart phone. The study poses no significant risks, participation will be anonymous, and all data will be kept secure and confidential. Eventually, this research could improve our understanding of the factors that contribute to individuals’ bereavement experiences. Each person will have the opportunity to win a $100 gift card for their participation. This research study is being conducted by Sarah Brown-Adams, M.A., Rachel Czosniak, M.A., Alejandra Zamora, M.A, and Richard Zweig, PhD. of the Ferkauf Graduate School of Psychology of Yeshiva University, with approval from the University’s Institutional Review Board.
