National Grief Awareness Day 2023
National Grief Awareness Day 2023
Wednesday, August 30, 2023

Wednesday, August 30th, is National Grief Awareness Day, a great opportunity and reminder to talk about and normalize the grief experience. This day is NOT a HOLIDAY. This day is not a day to remind us to grieve. Help
make this Day a Legal Day of Education and Awareness by signing the petition. You can go to
Change.org and
type in National Grief Awareness Day.
Maybe take a moment to reach out to someone you know who is grieving
a loss and let them know you care and that they are not alone, offer support, and just listen.
If you are grieving,
I encourage you to take some time today to acknowledge your grief and all you have lost. You might also
evaluate any gains from your grief process if that feels helpful. If you feel up to it, consider sharing some
of your grief story with a safe person who can listen with empathy or with someone who may benefit from
your wisdom, experience, strength, and hope. Don't forget to offer yourself some extra compassion and
grace for what you are going through. It's hard.
Grieving is not easy, but it is easier when we are not alone.
If you feel alone, please reach out for support in any way you can.

Responding to Grief in Service Professions Webinar

Tuesday, June 21, 2022, at 6:00 PM EST
When we think of professions that regularly interact with grieving people, we might think of healthcare
workers, hospice employees, and funeral directors. Yet many service providers routinely find themselves in
the thick of conversations about grief with little to no training on how to navigate these interactions.
Join
WPSU & Speaking Grief on Tuesday, June 21, 2022, at 6:00 PM EST for the webinar “A Bartender, Hair Stylist,
and Nail Technician Walk into a Funeral...Responding to Grief in Service Professions.” Experts will share
ideas for how to respond to grieving clients with compassion while still maintaining professional
boundaries as well as what to do if your own grief is triggered by a client’s story.

Hair stylist and Industry Educator Hunter Donia will moderate the discussion with our panelists:
- Rachelle Bensoussan, M.A., CT, co-founder and managing director of Being Here, Human
- Shelby Forsythia, intuitive grief guide and author of Your Grief, Your Way
- Luis Resendez, LMFT, founder of Vida Emotional Wellness

This event is for YOU, so they will also answer questions from the chat as time allows.

The 2nd Annual Virtual Grief Summit is the premier virtual event for healing professionals working with grief and loss. Death and loss feel so much closer now. And grieving is so different. Our journeys’ no longer focused on a single loss. Instead, we’re facing an accumulation of heartbreaks, sudden traumas, and a seemingly endless sense of uncertainty and collective loss. It all adds up, overwhelming us and making grief harder to process, leading to prolonged grief disorder, anxiety, depression, etc. PESI and Grief.com have teamed up to line up the most prominent names and best instructors for their 2nd annual Virtual Grief Summit, the world’s largest gathering of professionals working with grief. And because the tools and techniques shared at this summit are critical to your work, they are offering free access to the entire 2-day live event. The summit will feature David Kessler, Megan Devine, Claire Bidwell Smith, Litsa Williams, and five other acclaimed experts. This is the place to get the most up-to-date strategies and interventions so you can help clients cope and facilitate healthy grief in this unprecedented time.

In just 2 days, you’ll get a comprehensive toolbox for addressing the most challenging issues for grieving clients in today’s destabilizing world, including:
- Techniques for navigating collective grief and uncertainty

 - Proven strategies to promote connection and personal growth
 - Practical tools for traumatic grief and mourning
- Unique strategies to create safe spaces for culturally diverse clients to grieve
- How to ethically use self-disclosure to enhance your work with grieving clients
- Expressive arts interventions for grieving children
- The opportunity to upgrade and earn up to 12 LIVE CE hours
- Interactive Q&A and handouts for each session
- FREE archive access to ALL summit recordings for 14 days
