END OF LIFE PREPARATION
IDAHO SPECIFIC RESOURCES
End-of-Life Doulas Idaho
End of Life Doulas of Idaho is an organization that seeks to connect the terminally ill and their families with emotional and practical support. But, they know death isn't just for the dying...their doulas also focus on community education, preplanning, eco conscious practices and grief support. Are you curious about becoming an end-of-life doula? Do you have questions about what the work actually looks like? Join the End-Of-Life Doulas of Idaho for a free open discussion around certifying and what to expect when pursuing an interest in death work. They believe that the community will be best served by having a diverse and inclusive network of death workers. They are often asked how to start the journey to become an End-of-Life Doula. In an effort to make information about death work accessible to all, they host a free meeting every other month where they chat about ways to become certified, companies that their doulas have loved and the details of death work. They know that our community is best served by having a diverse and inclusive network of Death Workers. Pull a chair up because there is plenty of room at their table! National POLST
The POLST (Provider Orders for Life-Sustaining Treatment) process helps patients get the medical treatments they want, and avoid the medical
treatments they do not want, when they are seriously ill or frail. It's about helping people live the way they want until they die. POLST encourages
patients and their health care professionals to talk about what patients want at the end of life. After talking, the patient and his/her health care
professional may be able to make informed, shared decisions about what treatments the patient wants, or does not want, and put them on a POLST form.
This form is a portable medical order that emergency personnel can follow whenever, and wherever, the patient has a medical emergency and can't
speak for himself/herself. It is different from an advance directive. The POLST form is a way for the patient to say "Yes, I want CPR and full treatment" or
"No, I want to stay where I am and be made comfortable," or something in the middle. The POLST form can be changed or voided at anytime.
