The Touchstone program is operated by the Children’s Home Society of Idaho’s Warm Springs Counseling Center. Touchstone Grief and Loss Group was established to support the special needs of grieving children and adolescents ages 5- 18. Meetings begin with a potluck meal followed by participants being separated into peer groups for discussion and activities focused on grief and coping skills. The next group starts on September 11, 2023, and runs for eight weeks, every other week, on Mondays from 6:30 - 8:30 PM MST at their downtown Boise Center. Empowers children and teens to: - Identify their feelings. - Recognize underlying emotions that trigger problem behavior. - Develop coping skills by understanding death & grief. - Share feelings & improve family communication. - Interact with peers who have also experienced a death in the family. Program highlights: - Sessions facilitated by clinicians & professionals trained in the grief process. - A supportive peer environment. - Children's activities during sessions; group discussions, crafts & games designed to explore grief. - Parental/guardian group sessions focusing on coping skills & supporting children through the grieving process. Grief Guide Consulting Office in Old Town San Diego, California Wednesday Evenings From 6:30 - 8:00 PM PST, Six Weeks, Beginning September 20, 2023 Wendy Kessler, Grief Specialist of Grief Guide Consulting, and Chetta Levell, Pet Therapy Coordinator, are launching a 6-Week Pet Loss Support Group that will begin meeting in person at Wendy's office in Old Town San Diego, California, on Wednesday evenings from 6:30 - 8:00 PM PST, beginning September 20, 2023. This group is limited to 8 participants and pre-registration is required. The cost is $50 per session, $300 if paid in advance. For many people, pets are a family member as well as the loved one we go to for comfort, and so their death can be devastating. Furthermore, grieving the loss of a beloved pet can be complicated by a lack of support because pet loss isn’t always acknowledged or validated by our network of family and friends. If you are grieving the death of your pet and longing for more support from people who understand, this group may be the space you need to process your grief. Her books "Surviving Spouse or Partner Suicide: A Mindful Guide for Your Journey Through Grief" and "Supporting a Survivor of Spouse or Partner Suicide: A Mindful Guide for Co-Journeying Through Grief," will be available for purchase on Amazon starting on January 26, 2023. She has included her story and the tools and studies she used to move through her healing journey, including mindfulness, meditation, and yoga. Since the death of Michelle's husband by suicide in April 2016, she has found a lot of meaning through writing. She took a long and winding road getting to the meaning, including learning about grief, loss, and trauma and becoming a certified Grief Educator. Transforming her journey into service, she has written two books to help others navigate the difficult journey of losing a spouse or partner to suicide or supporting someone while they grieve such a loss. The books are meant to help those suffering from this loss and their supporters navigate this incredibly difficult healing journey.
