💔July is Bereaved Parents Awareness Month💔
Bereaved Parents Awareness Month is a month dedicated to raising awareness of the support necessary when one endures the loss of a child. Bereaved Parents Day will take place on Wednesday, July 3rd, to raise awareness for all parents who have lost a child of any age and from any circumstance. This day of support was initiated in 2020 by the UK charity A Child of Mine after they realized there wasn't a specific day honoring bereaved parents from all walks of life. The theme this year is "Love Lives On". The aim is to unite every bereaved parent from all walks of life and to break the silence around loss. Sadly, babies and children die, but it's time to stop the taboo and start talking about death and loss and show up with empathy for bereaved parents. Please join us to help spread the message, keep the conversation going, and show the bereaved parent community that they are NOT alone. Participate by lighting a candle on Wednesday, July 3rd, at 7:00 PM in your timezone to remember all of the children who have lost their lives too soon. If you would like to share a photo on social media to show your support, please use the hashtags: #nationalbereavedparentsday2024 #bereavedparentsday2024 #achildofmine #LoveLivesOn #NBPD24 Let's come together to honor and support parents who have faced the unimaginable loss of a child by spreading love and compassion. Let's raise awareness, foster understanding, and provide a community of comfort and healing. Share stories, lend a listening ear, or simply light a candle to show that no one has to grieve alone. Thinking of all our bereaved dads today and sending them so much love and support. Today, August 28th is International Bereaved Father's Day, which falls each year on the last Sunday of August. While Father's Day in June is celebratory, this observance recognizes all the dads who have experienced the grief and trauma caused by the death of their baby or child in any way. It serves as a day of remembrance, hope, healing, and a time to deal with the enormous pain associated with such a loss. In addition, it calls out stigma against grieving fathers in general as they sometimes grieve differently from their partners. They are often pressured to be strong and don't feel free to express their grief openly. But fathers grieve deeply too and should be allowed to grieve in their own way. International Bereaved Father’s Day, launched in 2010, was created to raise greater awareness about parents living after child loss – and allow people to remember the child or children they love and miss openly. We acknowledge all the grieving dads out there. Whatever feelings today evokes for you are valid. FREE Living With Grief MasterClass

Please take some time to reach out to someone you know who has lost a sibling(s), acknowledge the loss and show them that you care. The loss of a sibling often causes deep pain and heartache that nobody can imagine who has not gone through it themselves. Sibling grief is often misunderstood and marginalized and siblings are sometimes called 'the forgotten mourners." The focus of the loss is usually on the parents, child, or spouse of the deceased, and rightly so, but the siblings may feel like their grief is overshadowed by the grief of other family members. Siblings suffer tremendously when they lose one another, especially so if the death is sudden or out of order. Often times surviving siblings feel survivor's guilt, abandonment, loss of innocence, family dysfunction, somatic symptoms, fear and anxiety when their brother or sister dies. Sibling relationships often hold deeply complex, rich attachments, so when one dies the other is often left feeling untethered and like they have had a limb amputated. Their memory keeper and life witness has suddenly disappeared forever. Often our siblings hold truer knowledge of us than anyone else, perhaps even ourselves. With the death of a sibling the shared history they had, and hoped for future they wanted to have with them is lost and that creates a great deal of uncertainty, insecurity and anxiety, and that usually goes unacknowledged and misunderstood by others. There is a saying that rings true that, "When a parent dies, you lose the past. When a child dies, you lose the future. When a sibling dies, you lose the past and the future." This November make an effort to connect with someone you know who has lost a sibling…even if it was years ago. Let them know you’re thinking about them and how sorry you are for the pain of their loss. Bereaved Parents Awareness Month
