December 10, 2023 at 7:00 PM Local Time On the second Sunday in December, the Compassionate Friends Worldwide Candle Lighting brings together family and friends from all around the world to light candles for an hour to remember the sons, daughters, siblings, sisters, and grandchildren who left this world too soon. On December 10, 2023 at 7:00 PM local time, thousands of people will light candles in remembrance of all the children who passed away too soon. The annual Worldwide Candle Lighting (WCL), a gift from The Compassionate Friends to the mourning community, is now regarded as the largest mass candle lighting on the planet. As it travels from time zone to time zone, it produces a virtual 24-hour wave of light. TCF's WCL began in the United States in 1997 as a modest internet observance and has since grown in popularity as word of the memorialization traveled throughout the world. Families come together in quiet commemoration of children who have died and will never be forgotten as thousands of informal candle lightings take place in homes as well as hundreds of formal candle lighting ceremonies. The Virtual Candle Lighting presented by The Compassionate Friends (TCF) National is memorably poignant and beautifully hopeful...knowing that we are remembering our daughters and sons, sisters and brothers, granddaughters and grandsons with thousands and thousands of people around the globe who are doing the same with us. Please join the millions across the world for TCF’s Virtual Candle Lighting program at 7:00 PM in each time zone to honor those loved ones gone from our sight but never our hearts, that their light may always shine on. The Compassionate Friends is an emotional support group for those suffering from child loss. Parents, grandparents and siblings (age 12 and above) are all welcome. They are a self-help group and all of their leaders are bereaved parents. They are a non-profit, non-denominational support group with no religious affiliation. The group meets inside the Meridian Senior Center at Julius M. Kleiner Park in Meridian, Idaho at The Village, every 2nd Thursday of the month at 7:00 PM MST.
