National Grief Awareness Day
August 30, 2022 August 30th, is National Grief Awareness Day, a great opportunity and reminder to talk about and normalize the grief experience. Maybe take a moment to reach out to someone you know who is grieving a loss and let them know you care and that they are not alone, offer support, and just listen. If you are grieving, I encourage you to take some time today to acknowledge your grief and all you have lost. You might also evaluate any gains from your grief process if that feels helpful. If you feel up to it, consider sharing some of your grief story with a safe person who can listen with empathy or with someone who may benefit from your wisdom, experience, strength, and hope. Don't forget to offer yourself some extra compassion and grace for what you are going through. It's hard. Grieving is not easy, but it is easier when we are not alone. If you feel alone, please reach out for support in any way you can. If you need some great ideas for finding support in your local area and online, please watch the IG live that Rachel from @gooddays.baddays and I did a couple of years ago on National Grief Awareness Day. You can watch it on the "About" page at My Grief Connection at the link in the bio (click the menu arrow on the top left). We hope you get some tips that will help you find support. Feel free to contact me if you need direction with finding resources. You deserve support, and it's okay to ask for help! You deserve support and it's okay to ask for help! Also, join the FREE live event for anyone facing loss featuring Angie Cartwright, the founder of the National Grief Awareness Day initiative, at Facebook.com/AngieGriefTheUnspoken at 8:00 PM EST, August 30, 2022. Angie will share her thoughts, and feelings on grief and the grieving, and would love to connect with you. "We don't grieve just the moment our loved one died. We grieve the past, the future, and the now. Our loved ones are more than one moment in time." —Angie Cartwright

Beauty for Ashes Gathering 2022

Gathering Hope is a collective experience for bereaved mothers, held each October to both remember our children and honor our unique motherhood. As fellow survivors, they invite you to join them for powerful speakers, uplifting worship, and a sacred, intimate atmosphere where you are regarded as a truly honored guest. Inspired by Isaiah 61, we are excited to share this year’s theme, BEAUTY FOR ASHES. "He has sent me to...bind up the brokenhearted...to comfort all who mourn...to give them a crown of beauty in place of ashes..."Isaiah 61:1-3. Gathering Hope has hosted an annual Gathering for miscarriage, stillbirth and infant loss survivors since 2015. This year, they are thrilled to announce that we have THREE different ways where you can connect with the people who understand you most…other moms. 1. Their first ever FULL DAY CONFERENCE! You will experience worship, be encouraged by guest speakers, intentionally connect with other women, attend breakout sessions, meet with specially selected vendors and MORE. 2. Attend Gathering 2022 Virtually. You’ll be able to simultaneously view the worship session, our speakers *and* gather in breakouts rooms with other attendees, just like we do at our in-person Gathering. 3. Gather with other loss moms in your area. By streaming the Gathering 2022 worship & speaker sessions and using the Leadership Kit as your guide, you’ll be empowered to host a Gathering! Thinking of all our bereaved dads today and sending them so much love and support. Today, August 28th is International Bereaved Father's Day, which falls each year on the last Sunday of August. While Father's Day in June is celebratory, this observance recognizes all the dads who have experienced the grief and trauma caused by the death of their baby or child in any way. It serves as a day of remembrance, hope, healing, and a time to deal with the enormous pain associated with such a loss. In addition, it calls out stigma against grieving fathers in general as they sometimes grieve differently from their partners. They are often pressured to be strong and don't feel free to express their grief openly. But fathers grieve deeply too and should be allowed to grieve in their own way. International Bereaved Father’s Day, launched in 2010, was created to raise greater awareness about parents living after child loss – and allow people to remember the child or children they love and miss openly. We acknowledge all the grieving dads out there. Whatever feelings today evokes for you are valid. Art Your Grief Classes with Emily Dilbeck - September 2022
Art Your Grief classes are for grievers. Grief comes in many different forms - this class is for anyone experiencing grief - it might be a diagnosis, a death, a relationship, job loss, a dream, a home, etc. All grievers are welcome. No art experience is needed to take an Art Your Grief class. All you need is to bring yourself and be willing to show up and try painting, drawing and collage to process your grief. Explore and express your grief using art on Zoom in a safe space with other grievers. Emily will be walking you through different prompts with basic art supplies (watercolor, colored pencils, collage - nothing fancy) to help you connect with your grief while creating. The goal is not to create beautiful art (although sometimes this happens), the focus is on your grief and having a designated safe space to connect and express your grief using color, texture, and movement. Art is a powerful tool to express and explore grief. There is something beautiful that happens when we sit with it all - even if it’s extremely difficult to do. Next class series: Three options for month long classes that meet once a week on zoom: Sunday Class: Sept. 4, 11, 18, 25 from 3:30 - 4:45 pm PDT/ 5:30 - 6:45 pm CT on zoom $120 Sunday Class: Sept. 6, 13, 20, 27 from 6:30 - 7:45 pm PDT / 8:30 - 9:45 pm CT on zoom $120 Wednesday Class: Sept. 7, 14, 21, 28 from 8:30 - 9:45 am PDT / 10:30 - 11:45 am CT $120 The first 60 min. are for creating, the last 15 are for optional sharing/listening (or you can continue creating). Please message Emily on Instagram to sign up. She only takes a handful of participants each month as it is important to me to keep it small and intimate. One workshop option for a one time class: If you don't want to commit to multiple classes, you can take the one-time workshop on Saturday, Sept. 24 from 5-6:15 pm PDT / 7:00 - 8:15 pm CT - $36 Private Sessions: You can schedule private Art Your Grief sessions, an hour class is $65. Buddy Sessions: You can schedule buddy sessions of Art Your Grief for 2-4 people. An hour buddy session for 2 people is $45 per person, 3 people is $40 per person, 4 people is $35 per person. Private Class: You can schedule a private class for 5-7 people for 4 sessions of 75 minutes each for $120 a person. The first 60 min. are for creating, the last 15 are for optional sharing/listening. October 8-9, 2022 Camp HOPE is a Wisconsin-based free weekend bereavement camp, open to grieving youth ages 5-18. Adult family members are welcome to join our adult camp, which is hosted at the same time as the youth camp. Registration for Camp HOPE this fall (October 8-9th) is now open! There is no cost to attend. Through playing, sharing, and being together in a camp setting with peers and staff who know the pain, the children and teenagers realize that the emotions they feel are a normal part of grief. What is happening to them happens to others everywhere, and at Camp HOPE, their pain is understood and shared. Campers will be captivated by the picturesque setting of the campsite, which features individual cabins, dining, and shower facilities. Each camper will be housed in small groups of similar-aged campers with three or more volunteer counselors. The camp is a 400-acre wildlife refuge with a 45-acre private lake that provides each camper with ample opportunity to enjoy nature. The Wisconsin Lions Camp is within easy driving distance from all parts of the state. Camp HOPE rents the Wisconsin Lions Camp (3834 County Road A, Rosholt, WI) in central Wisconsin, two miles east of Rosholt and sixteen miles northeast of Stevens Point.
