 Because Kids Greive: 10th Annual Fall Bereavement Conference
“Lessons from the Field: A 30-Year Retrospective” The registration deadline is November 5th. Guest Speaker: Dr. Tina Barrett, LCPC, Executive Director / Co-founder of Tamarack Grief Resource Center. Barrett’s commitment to excellence in grief and trauma care is matched by her profound dedication to healthy organizations and setting teams up for success. Drawing from her experiences as an Executive Director, Board Member, staff member, supervisor, supervisee, and volunteer, Dr. Barrett focuses on strength-oriented care and fostering healthy, effective workplaces. Her interactive workshops are informed by her work in schools, hospitals, private practice, group homes, treatment centers, and nonprofits. She serves on the Leadership Team for Project Tomorrow Montana, the Presidents’ Circle for the National Alliance for Children’s Grief (NACG), and the Advisory Board for the Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS). Dr. Barrett received the Community Educator Award from the Association for Death Educators and Counselors (ADEC) in 2019. The 10th Annual Bereavement Conference will be held on: Thursday, November 14, 2024, in the Treasure Valley area Location: Hot Springs Auditorium at St. Luke’s Plaza 1 (lower level of the employee health building), 400 S Broadway, Boise, Idaho Check-in: 8:30 am, Conference: 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM Friday, November 15, 2024, in Twin Falls Location: St. Luke's Magic Valley, Oak Rooms, 801 Pole Line Rd W, Twin Falls, Idaho Check-in: 8:30 am, Conference: 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM Learning Objectives: - Identify four grief styles and strategies to help each style experience stability and care amidst grief. - Introduce practical interventions for grief support (narrative, creative, symbolic, and physical). - Review two strategies to increase autonomic nervous system regulation. - Understand the construct of stigmatized losses. - Introduce the tri-phasic model of trauma recovery. This conference provides a valuable opportunity for professional growth and community engagement in the fields of grief and trauma support. Cost: $40 (includes snacks and lunch) Social Workers and Counselors may earn up to 6 CEUs by participating in the workshop. This three day conference will bring together educators, mental health professional, professional trainees, and students, business and community leaders as well as members of the public, survivors of suicide loss, and attempt survivors. It will address suicide as a public health crisis to better understand and prevent suicide while helping to build pathways to better models of prevention and treatment in order to save lives. Their mission with this community education event is to provide attendees with the opportunity to understand how grief in children differs from adult grief, and to build skills for meeting the needs of bereaved children and youth. They offer CEUs for Social Workers, Counselors and Morticians, but anyone in the community is invited.
