Blue Christmas / The Longest Night Services - 2022
The constant refrains we see about the holiday season's happiness, and getting together with family and friends, remind many people of what they have lost. So often, the glow of Christmas lights, holiday cheer, and Advent candles can feel unreachable to those surrounded by loss or grief. The death of a loved one can make us feel alone amid the celebration and joy. We need the space and time to acknowledge our sadness; we need to know that we are not alone. If you haven't heard of it before, Blue Christmas sometimes called The Longest Night in the Western Christian tradition. This service is traditionally held on or near the longest night of the year, December 21st, the Winter Solstice. It honors people that have lost loved ones and are experiencing grief or loss of any kind. Usually,
it includes opportunities for expressing grief, pain, and lament, as well as a chance to focus on the promise of hope. This service is not intended to be a healing service, but an acknowledgment of the hole grief leaves in one's heart while simultaneously remembering that we worship a God who is with us, even in the darkest of times.
