Meet-Up for Survivors of Murder-Suicide Loss
You are not alone. After murder-suicide loss survivors may feel isolated and stigmatized. This peer-led group was founded to provide hope and collectively support each other through this rare type of loss which, unfortunately, is an everyday occurrence in the United States. They welcome all survivors of murder-suicide loss, regardless of their relationship to those who died. They emphasize welcoming all kinds of survivors of this type of loss as they understand, for many people, you cannot “choose sides.” The loss of multiple people after this type of suicide loss is incredibly complex to navigate. Survivors include, but are not limited to, the following circumstances: sibling and/or step-sibling loss, parental and/or step-parental loss, child or step-child loss, spouse, ex-spouse, partner or ex-partner loss, in-law loss, friend loss, witnesses of murder-suicide with or without direct connections to the victim and/or perpetrator, and attempted murder-suicide survivors. This peer led group is a hybrid traditional support group and action group. They welcome those interested in either, or both. Their 90 minute format is conveniently divided to accommodate attendees with interests in traditional support and/or advocacy. Brittany Noble McCarthy and Sara Cobb are survivors of murder-suicide loss and the co-founders of this unique support network which launched in 2020 and today has connected survivors across the country. The group meets every other Friday via Zoom at 5:00 PM PST/8:00 PM EST. Contact Brittany at brittanynoblemccarthy@gmail.com or Sara at mygriefconnection@outlook.com if you would like more information. They ask all attendees to complete an initial phone or video call with one of the group leaders to ensure the environment is a good fit and to ensure the safety and privacy of all group members. Prerequisites for group participation: - Must be 18 years of age or older - Must be currently in professional counseling/therapy, actively seeking professional counseling/therapy, or have a willingness to professional counseling/therapy in the future - Must be willing to share contact information with the group leads for emergency use only Check out the group profile at: https://grief.com/grief-support-group-directory/

Coping With Guilt When You're Grieving Webinar
March 16, 2021 from 12:00 - 1:00 PM EST Guilt is one of the most common emotions to experience after loss, but it can be the result of good people being much too hard on themselves. Although sometimes there really is something worth feeling guilty about, guilt can also result from good people being much too hard on themselves. We can sometimes expect way too much of ourselves and beat ourselves up when we don’t fulfill those expectations. It’s important to notice this kind of thinking when it occurs, because it can stand in our way of healthy grieving. In this webinar, Dr. David Feldman will discuss common ways we can be way too hard on ourselves after a loss, along with tips about how to be kinder to ourselves. Presented by the TAPS Institute for Hope and Healing®, this webinar is free and open to the public. Continuing education credit is not available. Register at https://www.taps.org/webinar/2021/grief-and-guilt Learn more about all that T.A.P.S. offers by visiting www.taps.org and/or email Institute@taps.org or call at 800-959-8277 (TAPS) with any questions. International Survivors of Suicide Loss Day
Saturday, November 21, 2020 International Survivors of Suicide Loss Day is a special time when survivors of suicide loss can come together to find compassion, connection, and hope through their shared experience. The day was created in 1999 when Senator Harry Reid, who lost his father to suicide, introduced a resolution to the United States Senate. Also known as Survivor Day, it was designated by the US Congress as a day on which those affected by suicide loss intentionally join together for a time support and healing. Survivor Day always lands on the Saturday before Thanksgiving, as the fall and winter holidays are often a challenging and emotion time for suicide loss survivors. The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention supports hundreds Survivor Day events all over the world. Find out more information and locate and register for your local Survivor Day events at: https://afsp.org/international-survivors-of-suicide-loss-day The Treasure Valley Idaho's Survivor Day event will be on November 21, 2020 from 11am - 1pm (MST) This event is for Survivors of Suicide Loss only.
